The Cornell
University Physical Education Department is proud to offer
one of the largest and most diverse Physical Culture Programs in
the Ivy League: over 100 courses are available, taught by experienced
and gifted instructors. Thousands of students, staff, and area residents
attend these classes every semester. Although many Cornell students
pre-register for courses on the internet prior to the semester,
many individuals also choose to participate in the walk-in registration
held at the beginning of the semester.

to take two credits (two courses) of Physical
Education, one credit each semester of the first year on campus.

take one for credit. Registered participants in Cornell Athletics
may receive PE credit (sign up during the registration). There are

SWIM
TEST REQUIREMENT
The
University Faculty Committee on Physical Education has established
a basic swimming competency requirement for all entering
freshman undergraduates. The test is normally taken as part
of their fall orientation process. The test consists
of entering the deep end of the pool with a feet-first jump
and making a continuous seventy-five-yard swim using front,
back, and optional strokes. Any student who cannot pass the
swim test is required to include swimming in his or her program
of physical education before choosing electives. Students unable
to meet the swim requirement for medical, psychological, religious
or other reasons acceptable to the University Faculty Committee
on Physical Education will be required to take either the Certified
First Responder or Wellness and Fitness Physical
Education class as an alternative to the swimming requirement.
A meeting with the Director of Physical Education, documentation
of the condition and a waiver request are required for the University
to consider an alternative to or adaptation of the swim test.
There
are also some exceptions for transfer
students. |
Regular
Swim Tests will be offered on Friday, 8/21/09,
from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday, 8/26/09 from 9:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students should bring a bathing suit and
their student I.D. card.Men's
